GLOBALLY, DAYTON MEANS "PEACE" -- A HUGE OPPORTUNITY!

People in Dayton are just like people around the world. We want safe neighborhoods, good schools, healthy lifestyles, and the ability to make a fulfilling and happy life for ourselves, our families, and our friends. The consensus values that Daytonians identify with are the same value through which the world can find common ground:

• Safety

• Prosperity

• Quality of Life

Thanks to the legacy of the Dayton Peace Accords that stopped the war in Bosnia during 1995, Dayton means "peace" to millions of people around the world. The "Dayton: City of Peace" initiative is not owned by any one organization or group. It comprises a diverse, regional, cross-culture of citizens intending to bring the promise of peace home to the Dayton region. In the last few years, an array of peace initiatives have made Dayton a true international hub of peace.

• Dayton Peace Accords, 1995

• Dayton Peace Prize, 2000-

• Dayton International Peace Museum, 2003-

• Dayton: A Peace Process, 2005

• Dayton: City of Peace initiative, 2005-

• Dayton International Day of Peace celebration, 2005-

• Dayton Peace Accords 5K Run/Walk, 2006-

• Dayton Literary Peace Prize, 2006-

• Dayton ScreenPeace Film Festival, 2006-2009

• Dayton "Anchored in Peace" Churches, 2009-

• Missing Peace Art Space, 2009-

• International Cities of Peace, 2009-

• Dayton Urban Youth Peace Academy, 2009-

• Plus many, many other initiatives and events that foster peace

Today, a network of business, government and community leaders is beginning to work to leverage this amazing opportunity. "Dayton: City of Peace" can, indeed, be a powerful promotional campaign, yet it's much more substantial. It's a call to community action... a promise... a neighborhood revitalization effort... a business initiative... a government initiative... a creative calling... a sophisticated effort to build a sustainable community with the core value of the American Dream: a life of peace.

Join the celebration! Get involved in the Dayton transformation. Let the world know -- and more importantly, our children -- that this region can become a true city of peace. It's imperative for the livelihood of our regional community!
