Refugees Rising Above Untold Adversity
The hardships faced by women and children, especially poverty, early pregnancies, gender based violence, emotional distress and lack of economic opportunities, can break some refugees but others rise to the deep challenges. “Grow With Us” is a refugee-led, community-based organization (CBO) founded by new ICP Liaison Marie Ngongo Djuma in the New Goma area of the Nakivale Refugee Settlement. “As a passionate advocate and young innovator for refugees,” writes Marie, “I have a great privilege to establish a city of peace in my community with the mission of creating change through peace for the lives of people and all those who need support because I believe that even in the toughest time, voices can lead, hope can grow and peace is not a privilege but a right.” Yes, “Grow with Us” is a challenge to all of humanity to understand and take action.
