Newberg Rotary, Oregon, United States

479th International City of Peace

Rotarianism: “The principles and practices of Rotarians.” In 1914, during the Rotary International Convention in Edinburgh, Scotland, delegates officially amended the Rotary Constitution to incorporate a specific, permanent global objective: “To aid in the advancement of international peace and goodwill through a fellowship of business and professional men of all nations united in the Rotary ideal of service.” Today, we commend the Rotarian peacemakers of Newberg, Oregon. Mike Caruso of Rotary District 5100 in Oregon founded the Rotary Peacebuilder Club Program in 2011, which is now in over 450 Rotary Clubs. Not long after, together with Larry Strober and other community leaders, the Rotary Club of Newberg Peace Committee was formed and has expanded to include the Newberg Kiwanis and the Newberg Rotary Earlybird group plus others. We congratulate and look forward to working with Kathi Futornick and Larry Strober, Liaisons between Newberg and the association of International Cities of Peace, as they develop the many peace programs within Newberg and the State of Oregon.
