Two-Day Seminar Commemorating International Peace Day 2025
“Advancing Peace and Development in Africa”
Addis Ababa, Ethiopia | September 20-21, 2025

  1. Background and Rationale

To commemorate International Peace Day 2025, Peace1stEthiopia, in partnership with the African Peace and Development Network, will organize a high-level seminar to mobilize African and international stakeholders toward peace, unity, and sustainable development. The seminar is firmly anchored in the African Union’s Agenda 2063, particularly Aspiration 4: A Peaceful and Secure Africa and Aspiration 1: A Prosperous Africa based on Inclusive Growth and Sustainable Development. It also supports the global Sustainable Development Goals, notably SDG 16 (Promote peaceful and inclusive societies for sustainable development) and SDG 17 (Strengthen the means of implementation and revitalize the global partnership for sustainable development).

The event will foster dialogue on:

  • Silencing the Guns by addressing conflict resolution in active crisis zones (e.g., South Sudan, the Democratic Republic of Congo).
  • Promoting pan-African solidarity through the sharing of best practices from peaceful nations such as Botswana, Ghana, and Namibia, and global leaders like Iceland, New Zealand, and Singapore.
  • Unlocking private sector and diaspora investments for sustainable development.

The seminar will conclude with the symbolic “Seedlings of Peace” tree-planting ceremony in Addis Ababa, representing our collective pledge to nurture peace and sustainable futures across Africa.
