Taking Responsibility for Building the Peace
“On behalf of our community,” writes new ICP Liaison Emilio Grimaldo, who is President of Unidos para Conectar A.C., “I would like to express our gratitude for the inclusion of Matamoros in this important global network committed to the promotion of peace, inclusion, and community development. For us, this recognition represents both an honor and a responsibility to continue promoting local initiatives that strengthen a culture of peace, equality, and respect for human rights in our city.” Matamoros is a city bordering the northern part of Mexico located in the state of Tamaulipas, bordering Texas, United States, along the Rio Bravo. Among their City of Peace objectives: “Implement a community mediation program in medical consultations for the peaceful resolution of conflicts. Form youth cultural committees into municipal educational institutions.” The term Heroica is an official part of their community name, due to their “heroic and repeated defense of Mexican sovereignty”. Now, they have stepped forward to defend peace through service.
