BUILDING THE INFRASTRUCTURE OF PEACE — COMMUNITY BY COMMUNITY

International Cities of Peace is a global association of member municipalities that define their communities as Cities of Peace. Each City of Peace in the association makes public a plan to increase the safety, prosperity and quality of life for all in the community. The organization provides an array of tools and services to help individuals, groups and civic institutions develop plans and make progress in furthering, within their community, a culture of peace.

International Cities of Peace is the main program of Cities of Peace, Inc., a 501(c)3 nonprofit non-governmental organization (NGO) based in the United States. Established in 2009, the association of International Cities of Peace has members in over 75 nations in Africa, Asia, Europe, North America, South and Central America and Oceania. In 2017, the association achieved Special Consultative Status with the Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) of the United Nations.

Members of the International Cities of Peace association are self-organized either by government proclamation, resolution, or a community leadership team. Each City of Peace is a signatory of a letter of intent based on the United Nations Culture of Peace Resolution, which addresses a Culture of Peace. The association of International Cities of Peace defines safety, prosperity and quality of life as the consensus values of peace around the globe.

VIDEO OF SPEECH

The above is an excerpt from the Stanford speech by founder J. Frederick Arment. It was taped when we had achieved over 300 Cities of Peace. Today we have exceeded 450 Cities of Peace. The young Afghan girl referenced in the video is now safe and free to pursue her dreams.
