Yucatán, Mexico: International State of Peace
The first International State of Peace is Yucatán, Mexico. The criteria for a STATE OR PROVINCE OF PEACE is stringent in order to ensure a meaningful and inspiring strategy to increase the safety, prosperity, and quality of life for all citizens in the community. We welcome GOVERNOR MAURICIO VILA DOSAL who is establishing not only the State of Yucatán as committed to building the peace, but also encouraging and facilitating four additional cities, in addition to the Capital City of Mérida, as International Cities of Peace, including:

Each of these cities is committed to creating a Peace Committee or Liaison for strategizing and implementing a full program of peace building for the purpose of increasing the safety, prosperity, and quality of life for all citizens in the community. STATEMENT OF PURPOSE
In the Yucatán State, the government is focused on security and the culture of peace, and we are achieving this thanks to citizen participation and good coordination between authorities, civil society, businessmen and educational institutions.
MISSION
We are an austere, honest, efficient and transparent government that generates social development and facilitates the exercise of the economic, social, cultural and environmental rights of people through effective, sustainable, innovative and inclusive public policies that put the center of their actions to the population.
VISION
Yucatan is a national leader for its sustainable economy, which has managed to eliminate extreme poverty with people who have knowledge and skills that allow them to obtain quality jobs and incomes above the national average, where cultural heritage and the arts converge in industries Creative and innovative. A state that guarantees the principle of equal opportunities for women and people in situations of vulnerability, that respects and values the environment, as an indispensable condition for economic, political and social development.

• Erect a monument dedicated to peace.
• Work in coordination with all government, federal, state and municipal agencies, and with national and foreign citizens active in the construction of peace and social justice.

• Contribute to the knowledge and development of human rights, democratic principles, the principles of equality between women and men, solidarity, environmental protection, universal accessibility and promotion of the culture of peace.

EVENTS
We organize peace culture events open to all public, such as the 17th Nobel Peace Prize World Summit that took place in the city of Mérida from September 19 to 22, 2019.
ABOUT THE LIAISON
GOVERNOR MAURICIO VILA DOSAL
Mr. Dosal is 39 years old. He holds a Bachelor degree in Law with a Master’s degree in Business Administration from the University of Phoenix Arizona and a Master’s degree in Political Management and Strategic Governance from George Washington University.
A businessman from the restaurant sector, he served as a development agent for Subway International. He was a State´s congressman of the majority for the fourth district in 2012 and in 2015 he was elected Mayor of Merida, in 2018 he was elected Governor of the State of Yucatan for the 2018 -2014 term, a position he holds since October 1st 2018.

ABOUT YUCATAN STATE, MEXICO
The State of Yucatán It is located in the southeast of the Mexican Republic, in the northern part of the Yucatan Peninsula. It is bordered to the north and west by the Gulf of Mexico, to the southeast by the state of Quintana Roo, and to the southwest by the state of Campeche. Most of its territory is a plain, consisting mostly of limestone. Its territorial extension is 39,524 km2. It is made up of 106 municipalities, and its capital is Mérida.
Yucatan History
Running the year of 1517, on March 1, the expedition headed by Don Francisco Hernández de Córdova landed in Cabo Catoche after several months sailing across the Atlantic. This is how history records the discovery of what we know today as the Yucatan Peninsula and which is conformed to date by the states of Campeche, Quintana Roo and Yucatán.
On December 18, 1526, just nine years after the discovery of the Yucatecan territory, the capitulation of the conquest of Yucatan was signed in Granada, Spain, and then named Francisco de Montejo – in honor of whom the avenue of the same exists today name- as Adelantado de Yucatán.
During the third expedition of the conquest of these lands, on January 6, 1542, Francisco de Montejo el Mozo founded the city of Mérida, of the same name as the Extremaduran Spanish city, in the ancient Mayan seat of Ichcanzihó.
On January 13, 1552, Tomás López Medel assumes the authority of the Province of Yucatan as a Visitor and applies reforms to the administration system as ordinances that would prevail during most of the Colonial era.
In its origins, the Yucatecan territory depended and was regulated through what was called the Audience of the Confines.
